University of Liberia and University of Georgia Sign New MOU

Last month, The UCL brought the University of Liberia(UL) and the University of Georgia (UGA) together to further partnership discussions. During the August meeting, UL President Ophelia Weeks and UGA Assistant Dean and Director of the Global Programs in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Dr. Amrit Bart each represented their institution. The two discussed partnership with a specific focus on Agribusiness.

Savannah State University signs MOU with University of Liberia

savanah-state-05-2015President Dr. Cheryl Dozier of Savannah State University (SSU) has agreed to serve as the Honorary Chair of the UCL beginning June 2015. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of Liberia’s President Emmet Dennis and SSU’s President Dr. Dozier last year where both institutions will make every reasonable effort to encourage direct contact, educational and research cooperation between their constituents, including students, faculty, departments and research centers/institutes.

In Liberia, Dr. Dozier and a delegation of SSU professors will meet with academic and governmental officials. The delegation included Dr. Deloach, Terri Clay and Norbert Chandler, assistant professors in the Homeland Security and Emergency Management degree program and Dr. Samuel Dolo, professor of mathematics. Dr. Dozier and her SSU faculty also had the opportunity to meet with President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf during her visit SSU also provided a scholarship to Randal Glee, a graduate from the UL, to work towards his Masters in Social Work at SSU.

SSU also presented the opportunity to host the 1st International Model African Union Conference in Liberia, however, due to the Ebola crisis, the event was postponed.

Georgia Tech signs Memorandum of Understanding UCL

ga-tech-06-2015Yves Berthelot, Vice President for International Initiatives at Georgia Tech, and Pierre King, the Deputy Chair of the Liberian Telecommunication Corp (LibTelCo), joined Ms. Blandford in signing the Memorandum of Understanding.

The Memorandum states that the work of Dr. Michael Best in Liberia is to continue including training of government officials, advisory research and the establishment of a center of excellence on information and communication technologies and development. Georgia Tech will assist LibTelCo, the national communications operator in the development of the country’s broadband information technology network.
